SUDDENLY: and other ways to change

Kultuuritalo Valve • 70 Minutes • Age recommendation 13+

A contemporary magic and circus performance about transformation; about what it feels like to change so deeply you replace yourself completely.

Suddenly: and other ways to change is a visual exploration into the sensations of transformation. What does it feel like to let change wash over you? The performance utilizes magic, circus and theater to examine the idea of constantly shedding away old layers of yourself. At its core, the show deals with the grief that accompanies such transformative events.

Suddenly: and other ways to change tells a story about the performer's life, while aiming to speak to some universal experience of the contradictions of personal growth. In a way it is something we all want, to be better versions of ourselves and yet it is a process we rarely have control over. The show investigates the themes of loss, pain and deep joy in the turmoil of the changing self.

OPUS COMPANY

Opus Company is a multidisciplinary performance collective based in Tampere, Finland. The collective is founded by Kerttu and Adam Opus, who are both contemporary circus artists interested in the cross sections of theatre, illusion, circus and installation art. Their shared practice is heavily influenced by a passion for dramaturgy and endeavors to use unique objects and physicality to explore how contemporary circus expresses meaning.

Within the company’s ethos is also a high emphasis on community building and communication about the process of making circus. The collective aims to develop new ways to communicate the goals and values of each project to the collaborators and audiences and facilitate ways for circus makers to discuss their practice.
